FYI, this topic was brought up a while back and I have done a little research and thought I would pass it on. Autometer makes a new gauge pod that fits the 68-69 console. I called and got some info and prices.

Gauge pod #10002 = $45.00
Oil pressure #4327 = $75.00
Water temp #4337 = $55.00
Fuel level #4314 = $50.00
Voltmeter #4391 = $50.00

All are electronic silver faced gauges with green illumination.

Should be more accurate, looks great and easier to install. At $275.00, about the same as originals. I'll probably be selling a nice set of originals on e-bay real soon if anyone is interested.

I just checked these parts on theSummit web site, and the prices you got are a rip-off. This is what Summit shows.

Gauge pod #10002 = $45.00--37.99
Oil pressure #4327 = $75.00--51.95
Water temp #4337 = $55.00--37.95
Fuel level #4314 = $50.00--35.95
Voltmeter #4391 = $50.00--35.95

That's just under $200 for all parts, plus S&H.

I bought a handmade part just like this in 1992 from some plastic company that is out of business now. Works and installs real easy. I would suspect that the Autometer part is even better quality.

George, thanks for the info. I was just using the prices shown by Autometer on their website. I figured you could probably get them cheaper, but hadn't checked yet. This just makes it that much easier of a decision.

Quickchevy - Mechanical gauges are more accurate, which is why most racers prefer them. However, for a street car the electronics are fine. All newer cars use electronic - they are cheaper, easier to install and more reliable. Just my opinion.

I have seen the dash conversion, if anyone can help I would also like to do this to my 67. I will end up with a 68 consol in but thats ok.It's the stock look of a consol that I am after unless anyone has seen a nice aftermaket one?

I just order the complete autometer console kit today from Summit. Came to $206.00. I'm a long way from installing, but once I get the gauges I'll try and take some pictures on the console and post them. The guy said it could take a week or so to get the gauge pod.

jm69ss - Thanks for the info...which console kit did you order and does that price include the gauge pod and an in-dash tach??? Also, what size speedo and tach will fit in the stock openings in a 69...

Trudz - The $206.00 was only for the console gauge pod and the four 2 1/16" gauges listed in my first post. These gauges are the Ultra-Lite ones and I have been told that the 5" speedo and tach will fit in the stock dash bezel with minimal cutting in the back of the hole. Don't know for sure though.

The speedo is #4495 5" 160 mph = $112.50. The tach is #4498 5" 10,000 rpm = $128.50.

If anyone has or plans to try this, let us know.

wow! i saw the console gauges in a super chevy mag. i want to buy the pod and the ultra light autometer chrome gauges. i was talking with my dad and he said that we should get a mechanical oil pressure, and water temp, and electrical fuel and volt meter. do you think this would be an ok set up? or should i go with all mechanical/electrical. also does summit stock the gauge pod?? also my speedo doesnt work in my 69, so can i take a 5 inch autometer speedo that matches the console gauges i want, cut a hole in the stock speedo and install the autometer speedo? my car doesnt have a tach so if i move the dash fuel meter to the console can i cut up the stock one for a 5 inch tach also? i have a clock but its busted too... i hope i didnt confuse anyone im just really excited that i have options on a custom looking interior. and good news my friend got me a job and now i have cash so my car wont starve. thanks alot guys!
