I'm going to dye the back deluxe door panels in my 67 from blue to black this weekend. I want to know which company makes the best vinyl dye/painting materials. Also, how should I prep the vinyl to ensure the paint aheres properly? If anyone else has done this please let me know how everything turned out.

I have not used it on the door panels yet, but I believe the SEM brand of vinyl and plastic paint is pretty good stuff. I bought mine at a local auto body paint supplier. I painted my center console with it and it seems to have a very durable finish. It states it can be used on carpet too. You might test spray a piece of scrap vinyl to see what it does under stress by bending it snd scraping on it.

I just did my headrests and a few misc plastic pieces. I think they turned out well but time will tell... SEM makes plastic prep and vinyl prep. I used them after a good wipe down with lacquer thinner. The vinyl prep softens the vinyl which helps the dye adhere... I got vinyl dye in rattle cans from NPD and the color match (ivory) was good. With black it should be great. If you have any parts that flex or give I would recomend the dye. If it's hard plastic use the paint..

Thanks for the quick response guys. I only have to paint my rear deluxe door panels, everything else is already black. It sounds like the SEM vinyl dye is the way to go. How many cans of the dye do you think I'll have to use for this little project? And how much is the SEM dye per can?
