I just received my repo comfort grip steering wheel for my 69. I'll be selling my cracked repo rosewood wheel (cheap). Anyway, the comfort grip has a 1/8" wide stainless steel band around the perimeter. Did originals have this stainless banding or were they just all black?

Yes, the originals had an exposed band of stainless around the O.D. (same steering wheel was used on the '69 Corvette and was optional on the Chevelle), although it's not entirely clear if the NK1 steering wheel ever made it into production on the Camaro.

I got it off ebay. It is a brand new OER repo that I think any of the first gen houses sell. I think the quality is fine, and the fit is perfect. I really like the comfort grip over the rosewood mostly because of the 15" dia vs. the 16", plus the grip is not as slippery. I haven't had it out to drive with yet so I don't know how much quicker the steering is going to be. These things are around $160, but they do show up on ebay if you can watch and wait. I paid $140 delivered.
