Hello all,
Here's a question for anybody that has factory air in their 67 or 68, or anyone who has installed a Vintage Air system with the original center vent. I am currently in the process of installing a Vintage Air system in my 67 that did not have factory air. I am installing OEM style vents (outer Astro vents and chrome center vent). Since the adapter for the center vent that is supplied with the kit does not bolt up to the original center vent, I have ordered an original used center vent duct. The problem I have is that when I bolt the OER chrome center vent to the original center vent duct, the louver in the vent is loose. It will not keep the position you set it at, and I'm sure it will rattle when driving down the road. So, my question is, what can I do to take the slack out of the rotating louver in the center vent?? By the way....I managed to remove the heater and all underhood ductwork and blower motor without removing the passenger fender!!! ------------------ Justin Traunero justin.traunero@furman.edu -1967 Camaro SS350 clone http://156.143.134.136/default.htm |

I'm not sure if this will solve your problem but if I understand it right the center vent is loose in the housing. I just rebuilt the A/C vents on my 70 Monte Carlo and ran into this same thing. To fix it I got some velcro with an adhesive back and used the fuzzy side to line the inside of the outer edge of the housing. THe vents move nicely now and stay where I put them. It also stops air from moving around the vents. The factory used foam a lot for this but it wears out quick.

When I did that part of the resto on my 67 with factory a/c, I tore apart all the vents, polished what was savable, and replaced what wasn't. The center vent was savable so I just tore it down and polished it. When I tore it apart, I saw exactly what you are talking about. The end of the rotating assembly has little prongs that it rotates on. Originally, those prongs are surronded by a thick felt, making it not rotate without sufficient pressure. Im sure you could recreate that same type of thing, with various different materials. As I don't think you can get the felt aftermarket or original. It's just gotta be a trial and error thing. Hope it goes well...

Thanks, I have the same problem, and I think I'll go with rubber or that velcro idea on the sides.
