The car I bought is an RS, but the headlight covers don't open and close because all the vacuum pieces are missing. Has anyone swapped to electric motors or linear actuators? Also, does anyone know of a good source for finding new pieces besides the big catalogs?

Ken ebay has some of the parts almost every day. Make sure you have the Assemble Manual for the Camaro first, it shows the routing of all the vacuum hoses and the position of the actuators etc.
They are fun when they work right but other than catalogs and ebay not sure where you can find them. Also search the 'parts 4 sale' here in camaros.net good luck ------------------ .... click,
Thanks for the reply. How detailed is the assembly manual. I have one for the Vette, and it is pretty good, but I've heard some of the other manuals aren't as detailed. Also, is there a separate vacuum diagram available from someone like Dr.Rebuild? Ken ------------------ 69 RS, 427, 4-spd 69 Corvette Coupe, 427, 4-spd |

Hello, we do sell the parts you need! The new Vacuum hose kit comes with a diagram to hookup the hoses. As for the rest of the system we do have an assembly manual that does cover the RS very well.

The assembly manual is VERY detailed with drawings of all the RS parts in place. You will need the same manual for other projects anyway, so go buy it, the best purchase you can make to lead you in the right direction down the road.

I know someone with a 67 rs who came up with a inovative way of operating his doors with a single motor. I am going to try the same with my 68 rs with his help as I do not want to spend the money on the 68 vacuum air parts I know it won't be correct but I'll like it!

maybe quickchevy or someone thats used them can tell us if the vac. canisters have been figured out by the manufacturers yet. the one part of my headlights that is inop. is the canisters, but i had previously heard the repro's weren't all that reliable. i had been putting it off, but i'm hoping that they are all good now? thanks, and sorry to jump in the post, but thought it was pertinent to the topic.

I think the repro canisters are a lot better now. The ones I got about 2 years ago now are still working fine. Can't say as much for the hose kit. Hoses turned brittle and cracked pretty bad within a year. And you pay a heck of a lot just for the little color stripes on them.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I know that vacuum canisters can be tough to get working properly. MY Vette uses one for each headlight, and one for the wiper door. I had to go through several vacuum diagrams and purchased a new hose kit. Do the RS canisters have replacement shaft seals? This seal is typically the first thing to go on the Vettes. Anybody else using different systems besides the original vacuum?

So far the feedback we are getting on the actuators is great!!! None have been returned for warranty and no defective units have gone out. They are not including extra seals at this point. Quite a few customers have been using them for over a year with no probs.
