This might sound kind of dumb, but I was just wondering if you can swap a cam without removing the intake. I know the lifters have to come out, but will they fit through the heads if I use a magnet?
thanks in advance

Not really. I've seen it done on an engine that was out of the car on a stand though. The rockers were loosened but not removed then the engine was inverted so the lifters would fall away from the cam.

It could be done if the old lifters came out easily, sometimes they don't.You would have to be mighty crafty with an assortment of magnet tools since the lifters would have to come out of the distributor hole in the intake.Take the intake off would be my suggestion.
