Ok, I'm nearing completion on my truck project and the idea's for my next project are dancing in my head. Of course a 1st gen camaro one of my considerations (and probably my top)
What are some of the major diffences between the years. I know of the windows and side vent things to tell the diffence between the years, but are there any significant changes from year to year? My plan is a pro-touring type set up, so it won't be a factory restoration or anything like that. Would a straight six camaro be a good choice for something like this. Realize, to get the pro-touring look I'll be doing upgrades to the braking system, engine, and suspension. Thanks for the help ------------------ '01 Formula...a few mods 321 RWHP/338 Tq with just a lid '72 GMC pickup...what is stock is a shorter list than isn't. |

Hello and welcome to the site! You'll find great info here, and if you are into pro-touring, also check out www.pro-touring.com Lots of first gen camaro guys there too.
As far as differences from '67-'69 there aren't many that are of a big concern. The '67 did not have staggered rear shocks, making wheel hop a problem. This is easily cured though with some stiffer leaf springs which is probably in the works with a pro-tour ride. I'm not sure exactly the difference, but I have also heard that the '69 model can fit a slightly bigger rear tire than the '67 and '68. Not a big diff mind you. Good luck with the project.

Quick differences.
67 - has round parking lights 68 - has rectangular parking lights. 69 - has these gill accent things on the rear 1/4 panel (which the 67 & 68 don't have). If the car is a RS (hidden headlights) then that cans the parking light identification. I'm sure someone else will put in some better identification ways. |

Just to expand on what Nasty stated...
'67 - Round parking lamps on non RS models; have vent windows; 1 piece rear tail lights (no separator); no side markers; rounded wheel wells '68 - Similar to a '67, but vent windows gone, rectangular to oval parking light on non-RS car's; Tail lamps have vertical separation into two distinct lenses '69 - Squared off wheel wells; body side crease running down the lenght of the vehicle; longer "saw-tooth" style rear lamps; Parking lights moved below the bumper to the valence Hope this helps.... ------------------ Steve - Central Ohio Camaro Club '69 Camaro RS/SS-350 - Daytona Yellow '95 Camaro Z-28 - Sebring Silver click here to see my webpage ---> My Camaros (updated 3/7/02) |
