I pulled the engine and tranny together on my '68. I left the crossmember on because I couldn't get it off. Now that everything is removed I still can't get it off. Everything is unbolted but it seems to be in a recess in the body. No matter which way I try to get it out it is too long to slide left or right and it won't angle enough to get it to drop. The only way I see to remove it would be to lift the body. I had a couple other knowledgable folks look at it and they came to the same conclusion. Am I missing something? If I can't get it off I'll just have to drop eng and tranny back in seperately I guess.

Loosen the two rearmost subframe bolts. This allows the subframe to drop enough to get the crossmember out.

Over the years, the body bushings have probably "settled" so the crossmember is against the underbody tighter than when new. Once the rear body bolts are loose/out, you may have to use a BFH (hammer) to move the crossmember. If this IS the case, you may wnt to consider replacing the bushings while everything is out.

I had to loosen the rear most body mount bolt (only one). That gave me just enough room to get it out without the BF Hammer finesse technique.
