Is there any difference between a M20 used on a 69 Firebird and a M20 used on a 68 Camaro. Can they interchange without any problems.
Thanks David |

countrycamaro, A 1968 and older muncie uses nuts to attach shift levers on the studs on the shift cams. 1969 and newer uses bolt to attach shift levers to shift cams. They both should have passenger side speedo cables for F-body use...Hope this helps...Crash

The internals are the same for both trans. The side covers differ in the method of shifter lever atttachment. Everything else is the same.

Are the input shafts the same? I thought they were different.
Thanks

Thanks for the information. I am in the process of switching to a 4 speed from an auto and have located a m20 from a 69 firebird. The question about the different input shaft is now a concern if it is true.
Anyone able to answer that one? Thanks David |

There are two input shafts that are available with a Muncie four speed. One is a 10 (course) spline and the other is a 26 (fine) spline. If this tranny came out of a 69 Firebird, I believe that it should be a 10 spline shaft, but that could have been changed to a 26 spline over the last 30 years. It is easy to tell the difference. Either input shaft will work, as long as you buy the appropriate clutch disc. You would buy a 10 spline disc for a 10 spline input, etc.
