What is the proper way to tighten the bolts on a th-350 pan? Ive got a paper gasket, not the cork, do i need silicone?

I don't know if there is a proper torque sequence. When I'm unsure, I start at the center and work in a widening circle to the outside. It wouldn't hurt to make two full passes to achieve your final torque. I wouldn't use silicone on the pan gasket, but that's just me. Some might recommend it. Look at the bolt holes on the pan, and if they're dimpled outward, flatten them with a ball peen hammer.

Yeah - what he said, about tightening from the center out and making a couple passes and knocking the high points off the pan holes.
I use 'Gasgacinch' for glueing the gasket to the pan and nothing between the gasket and trans.
TH350 pan bolt torque is @8ft lbs.

What, me old? What did I say that sounded old? OK, I admit it, I AM old. I just didn't think it would be so obvious. 45 next month. It would be interesting to see how old everyone on this site is...or at least what they're willing to admit to.

This is too funny....you guys are OLD! I must be the kid of the group, since I will only turn 43 in May. As for the gasket, I hate using any sealant at all. It is a pain in the arse to clean it off later if you need to. I have used the black ones from TCI with the best luck, they are better by far than cork, the brown paper ones, or even the cheapie black ones. Snug the bolts, then go around to 95 inch/pounds of torque.
