I'm going to a 700R4 and have heard that I need to change my radiator to one with a tranny cooler in it. Do I need to do this or can I run a auxillary cooler instead? I have been told that with a auxilary cooler the tranny will run to cold. The 700R4 needs a radiator with a tranny cooler.

Mike, you can run just an aux cooler, tap in a trans temp gauge somewhere to find out what temps you're running. You can always adjust that reading. gl

Tried running an auxillary cooler only, got stuck in traffic jam for 15 minutes, traffic started to move, no mor upshift, tranni cooked.
Trans rebuild $700.00 up
Rebuilt rad with proper cooler $300.00
Finding out the hard way Priceless
I would use the rad cooler along with auxlary cooler.

Hmmmm. .. I ran my 10+ yr old 700 with a B&M trans cooler only for 4-5 years, and didn't have any problems. Maybe I was just lucky?

I agree that you can run just the auxillary, I do it all the time. I make sure the cooler gets good airflow and cooling fan coverage.

I like to see the trans temp between 170-190 degrees.

Maybe get a transcooler with a electric fan already on it. They will work off of temperature control. On the other hand, by the time you get one of those units you could purchase a radiator at a local parts store for about the same money...
