Anyone know if there are drain holes in the rocker panels to drain water out of the lower body on convertibles? It has been draining since yesterday, it sat out in the rain all afternoon at Pleasanton. (Joe G and I are die-hards, stayed till the end of the show). By the way, GREAT SITE, GREAT INFO!!!

Kent, there are rubber flapper valves in the inside rocker (where floor attaches) almost to the rear wheels. Rust and scale build up to block (or slow) this hole down. The rubber may not be there, but there is a retangle hole there.

Would this drain hole be a good place to insert a wand and spray rust neutralizer, just in case there's some hidden rust lurking in the rocker area?

Definately good idea but you may want to blow it out really good first with an air hose get all the scale and debris out of the area other wise youll have a collection of moisture problem which will lead to the nasty bubbling one day and a disaster the next. Check to see if the rubber flap is still there, This prevents the debris from getting in there. If it is gone you got debris for sure. Blow it out,protect it and REPLACE IT with another flap. This preventive maintanence is well worth the aggravation.

I flushed out my rockers by letting water flow down the cowl panel to run the length of the rocker. Take off the flaps so the debris can drain. You still may have to rod out stuff that gets trapped at the opening. I left my flaps off so when I do wash the car the air can flow through to dry it out once I drive it.

IMO these cars do not drain well after years. The less you blast them with water the better you are. If you do, make sure to take it for a good ride on the highway to shake out as much water as you can. Brian

It scars me to even think of one drop of water in my rocker. I would not even think about intentionally putting water in them.
I don’t even like to wash my car because of the potential damage I could be doing.

Just last month I used Eastwood’s door/rocker spray system to inject POR15 in my rockers. I used the access holes in the rear wheel well.

If you have water in your rocker you may want to direct an air hose in the access hole and let it dry out the rocker as soon as you can.

If you wash your car, water is going into the rockers. There is no way around that. Some thirty plus years of leaves and other debris falling down the cowl vent and there's the problem. That stuff acts like a sponge and holds the water and that's where you get the rot. I've tried compressed air and vacuuming but flowing the water through got the most crud out. I spent a good half hour cleaning these out, but at least now when I do have to wash the car, which is infrequent as I also use the "spray and wipe" type cleaners,
I don't have to wonder what is still in there.

When I had my kick panels out, I was amazed at the amountof crud in the rockers. I cleaned it out as best I could, first wih my hands, then a shop vac, then my wife's vac (don't tell her!) cause it has a smaller hose... and then I put a hose in there, and flushed em out and made sure everything was draining like it should.

If you drive your car, you have to wash it. If you wash it, water will go in the rockers. All you can do is get it as clean as possible, and let nature take it's course the way chevy intended.
