Question

My '68 ragtop doesn't have the dampeners ("cocktail shakers") in the trunk.

Does anyone make these things, or do I need to find some used ones?

I flipped through Year One, NPD, and the Paddock and didn't see anything.

Thanks

D&R Classic (www.drclassic.com)shows them in their catalog. I believe that they are only available used.

Do you know if they were the same for all three years? Will 69's fit a 68 convertible?

Anyone out there have a pair of rear shakers they want to get rid of?

Last I checked, D&R wants alot of $. My brother has a set. I'm sure he'll see this post. I'll e-mail him tonight if he hasn't posted here. The 67/68's are different than the 69's.

Do a search or two on cocktail shakers... You will find lots of info... The "Body Shop" forum would be a good place to start.

Chevy had a reason for putting them on the ragtops. It may not have been the most elegant fix but it got the convertible into production.

Lightbulb

My guess is when the cars get gone through or restored, or at least repaired--they get tossed.

My car had partial rear quarters done and the trunk cleaned up and repainted. Previous owners may have felt no need for them, especially since they clock in at 24# each. So all the hot rodders may have tried to lighten the load.

As to if they work, I don't know firsthand. But I have seen some posts about vibration complaints at higher speeds in ragtops without the shakers.

Ckaram, I'm Rick D's brother, and I got the message. First, the shakers are needed to counter cowl shake. Many of these were taken out when fenders were replaced and they were never reinstalled. It's too bad that alot of these were simply thrown away. However, today is your lucky day. I happen to have a set of shakers that fit 67-68's. 69 camaro's used a different set because the car itself is wider and the bracket arms were longer. Let me know if you're interested
