In reading a previous post, I see reference to "4" weight distrib. cannisters on the '69 camaro conv. I have a '68, and I only see 2 at the very rear of the trunk. Where are the other 2 located?

There are two in the front, tucked under the fender corners about 6-8" from the front edge. You can see them from the engine compartment by looking into the fender. It's not uncommon for them to be missing.

I have a 68 conv and I have 2 in the trunk and 2 in a box. I've driven the car most every day for 3 years and I guess I don't know what I'm missing. How important are they? How hard are they to put back in? I have yet to reassmble my hide-away headlights (they came in the box too), will the shakers get in the way of that work?

A couple of things, first, I understand that the cocktail shakers are not for wieght distribution but are vibration dampers. They are only used on convertibles. Winch, I am making the assumption (always dangerous!) that '67s and '68s are similiar. On my '67, I had to remove the RS headlamp assembly to get to one of the bolts holding the cocktail shaker in place. So if you have the headlight assembly out of the car, now is the time to reinstall the cocktail shaker.

Yes, the cocktail shakers sit behind the headlight assembly. There are 4 bolts - 5/16". One is a reuse of one of the bolts holding the fender to the extension, one is bolted through the inner fender just behind the large cutout for the headlight door bellcrank hole and the other two go through the radiator support. Once you mock it up, it's fairly obvious.

I found them! Just didn't look close enough. They are really not that obvious. So my '68 conv. has all 4.

I sure hope these cocktail shakers are exclusive to convertibles, cause I have No idea what they are. Please enlighten a poorly coupe owner.

"Cocktail shakers" were exclusive to convertible and were necessary to cancel out harmonic resonance (vibration at certain speeds)created when the roof was removed for the convertible.

Thanks for the info 70 RS/Z28. Just how do they do that? Are they rubber pads? I wasn't aware the characteristics changed that much at high speeds in convertible camaro. Interesting.

They are filled with transmission fluid according to my manuals. I don't know the physics of the harmonic cancellation. In fact, I am just learning about the Camaro itself by reading and looking at my 68 conv.
I'm amazed!! And just starting to scratch the surface (not of my car).
