I have a 1968 convertible, base model.

I removed the manual convertible top frame, replaced it with an automatic top frame and had a new white vinyl top affixed to the frame.

I adjusted all four windows so they align perfectly on the top -- all windows are the same height.

When I close the convertible top, however, there's about a one-inch gap between the top of the windows and the convertible top weatherstrip.

HELP!!!

How does the header and top front line up?
Do the latches pull in okay?
Are there any major (1/2"+) gaps in the top joints or does anything look when closed.
Are the windows adjusted correctly - can they be raised to contact the seals if the top is correct?
It's hard to visualize how the top isn't comming down far enough to touch the top of the windows unless the new top is installed wrong or the windows are still out of adjustment. I don't see how the top frame from another car would even be close.

Sounds like you aligned the windows without the top up. If you did you had no refrence to where they really needed to be. I know it's a lot of work but sounds like it's time to start over with the top up. I can't see that manual vrs power tops would be an issue. I'd make sure the top frame was adjusted properly also...

How did the windows match up with the manual top frame? Any problems there?

I never looked at the windows aligned with the manual top, because the car came to me in such a "bare bones" condition -- there were so many other things that needed attention (like an engine, tranny, etc.).

The thing is, even if I did adjust the windows with the power top up, I'm sure that these windows will not go any higher than I've got them.

I'm really stumped.

Like I said earlier - I can't even imagine a "wrong" top fitting an F-body. There wasn't an X-body rag-top (68~?) so that can't be it and ?? ?? else would come close.

Again - how does the header fit up? Is it down tight and the latches pulling in okay?
Are the weather strips the correct ones?
Convertible windows are shorter than coupes so that shouldn't be a problem.
I've never heard anything about Power and Non-power top windows being any different and in fact I've swapped windows (tinted) from a Power to a Non-power once so I know they work.
You got me stumped guy - maybe some pictures (with little circles and arrows) showing the problem will light some bulbs on here.

BTW - check out this post and Angelglo's pictures and see if anything looks fishy compaired to your's;

rafab,

i dont think this has been mentioned yet but did you adjust the stops? they adjust about an inch up and down. in the front windows, there are two. i think you have to lower it half way to loosen it. there is also one in the rear of the front window. the rear window has one also and it is obvious though i think it controls mostly movement going forward as to not contact the front window. there are two adjusting nuts that you can loosed and you can move the hole regulator assembly up and down until you get all the way to the top when you can also move it back about 1/2 and inch. well, hope this helps.
