In looking at cars and pictures of convertibles, its kinda weird but, even in the restoration books, if you see convertibles with the tops down, there is a huge variation in how far the folded tops stick up. Some cars seem to have the top completely in the well, and the boot lays flat. Other cars have the tops poking up so far, you cant get a boot on it. And, seemingly, every degree in between. What accounts for this wide variation?
I know on my car, I have to really work the top down to get it far enough in the well to use the boot. I just worry about eventually bending a frame piece.

Steve, manuals have to get clipped on the top latch (like yours), so they should always be at the same height.
Power tops stop when you release to button (wherever it is). Some newer tops that are heavier than 32 oz. may be too thick to let the top go all the way down. One trick is once the top is raised a couple of inches from the windshield, close the latches. This will make the latch hooks lie down instead of sticking up. This provides more room for the boot to clip on. |

there are also a couple of variables that will impede the top from folding all the way down. one of them is that you have to put a fold in the midway point of the top where it bends. another area that might stop it from completely folding is the well liner. if the well liner is to tight, it will keep it from folding all the way in the top well
