Hello I'm posting this here as the Tech 2003 forum seems to be abandon. I have been trying to figure out the CORRECT setup for my L78 (67) Camaro with Smog and Power steering. Here's what I've found. Can anyone give me difinitive answers on which smog pump and brackets to use? Does anyone know if the 3882831 bracket with the 0800 pulley lines up with the 3rd (outermost) track?

Here's what I've found with my research:

The smog pulley looks to be a 3880800

There are two different smog pump brackets under consideration:

3882831 (L35 for sure) with 3880800 lines up with 3rd track (conflict with Power steering)
3877644 L78 (Unverified) with 3880800 lines up to 2nd track

The 3882831 bracket seems to mate with a "bottom dump" pump- A pump that exits out the bottom instead of the rear.
The 3877644 bracket seems to mate with a more standard rear exhaust pump like the Z28 and others same year.

The Power Steering pulley looks to be a 3873847 (3rd Track)-Via all available written material found.

The big question for me is Which bracket for the L78 setup. Does an L78 with Power Steering use a different PS pulley other than the 3873847? Also, I found that the 3877644 bracket raises the pump UP in addition to moving it back a track (2nd track). The hood insulation on my car was "grooved" slightly from the turning pulley. I can't imagine GM would position the pump so high-maybe 1-1.5in from the hood's metal under surface?
Using the bracket 3882831 puts the smog pulley smack on the thrid grove so any car with N40 (power steering) would have to have a different pulley to line up with the 2nd grovoe? Or could it be that the smog belt ran off the water pump's (3rd groove) pulley only and the Power steering off the crank's 3rd groove?. If this is so then the 2nd groove would go unused for an L78 with K19 and N40- Seems strange. Can anyone add to this??

Thanks,

Leif Bertrand

Leif - one of the long range goals of this site is to perserve good valuble data that manifests in the posting here. It makes it very hard to track and save this information when a thread is placed in more than one forum. It also tends to send a message to the folks already helping you in teh other thread that you don't apreciate the efforts they have put forth and that you are nolonger interested in their input.

This site is small and it takes days and even weeks for tough problems to get resolved sometimes. Let's keep this alive in the other forum. This link will take anyone looking here to your other thread...
