I looked at this car, not perfect but nice and very fast. I am looking for a weekend ride but don't want to spend stupid money that I'll never see again. What's the real money on a number 2-3 yenko clone?

Probably not much more than where the auctions at now, what's the paint/body look like in person? In the auction picture, there's definitely and issue with the drivers side fender, where it meets the rocker?

Paint and body are actually very good, no waves, filemarks, bondo, dirt, orangepeel, etc. It's not a $10K paint job but a decent $5K effort. Interior needs a little attention in headliner and door panel trim.
The guy wants no less than $26K.... |

The date is too early for a real COPO motor, so if it's a 4 bolt, it woulld most likely be a Corvette motor... either a real late 68 or a real early 69. Remember 512 blocks were used for 2 bolt 427s, too. The intake is painted, which makes me beleive it cast iron, oval port. That would indicate a 2 bolt with 163 heads, and cast iron crank. That doesn't make it a bad motor, as it could easily take 500hp. Just that it's not as valuable as a 4 bolt 512, with all the correct goodies.
Very nice Yenko clones are selling for $35-40. A full interior would cost about $1000. If the instrument panel is messed up, add another $500 for a pristine one, rechromed. You've seen the car, so you are in the best position to determine flaws, but $26 doesn't sound bad, as long as the body is nice....remember a new paint job can hide alot of bondo, so look carefully in the rear wheelwells, trunk floor, and behind the front wheels for signs of bondo repair. |

Good thing it has the mandatory COPO/ZL-1/L-88 "L@@K-L@@K, RARE,RARE" NOS/OEM "Caution -Fan" sticker
Wonder where all these "professional restorers" get the idea those stickers were ever used on Camaros?

Look at the fuel line. It's an oval port manifold with a Q-jet. Can't be big port heads the manifold will leak air. Like was said 512s are also used a pass. car blocks.

I'm still interested in the car although the guy won't budge at all on the price of $26K. I'm as stubborn as he is so don't want to pay all the money.
I can probably find something else for that kind of coin... |
