I bought some used orig. Z28 alum. finned valve covers and want to put them on my 350. They have some spots of discoloration, etc but are in good shape otherwise.... I am assuming they can be polished out, but tried some Billet polish and have not had too good results. Does anyone have any tips for polishing these or are they ruined?

Depending on the finish your are looking for, I believe Camaro High Performance can "re-skin" 'em and make 'em look like new. Not cheap though....

I just picked up a pair from Jerry at Camaro Hi preformance. He charges $95.00 for the reskin add another $11.00 for a new set of flags and two rubber groumets and you have a very nice set of covers.

They are not finished dull grey but somewhat polished.

There was also some of the tumbler media left on the inside but should wash out easy enough.

I'm speaking as a knowledgable enthuisiast on 70 Z-28 valve covers. May I assume they are same/similar to 1969???? The ORIGINALS as most of you know were of a satin looking finish......and NOT highly polished as the NEWER style NOS Chev Z-28 covers are. As I'm thinking McNeish does, I sand and glassbead the exterior to remove any blemishes and corrosion and then find a company that has a ceramic sone tumbler....Run just long enough to remove glass bead "look" but not TOO long or you'll get a POLISHED look.......This isnt rocket science, YOU can do this........Chuck S
