It is my understanding this option was not available untill mid year 1969 does anyone know what month they were available? What came with the spoiler pkg and what was the trim code if there was one?

The ZL2 Special Ducted Hood first appeared on the dealer order form on the 12-68 rev. The earliest cars known to have been built with it are the first two ZL1s built 12E. Most Z/28s did not have it.

D80 Air Spoiler Equipment included front and rear spoilers. From the start of '69 production until around February '69 the narrower '68 rear spoiler was used; both were used for a short time. Very late in the model year the D80 code was added to the trim tag of Norwood Camaros built with spoilers.

You are referring to 2 seperate options in your question above. The ducted (cowl) hood was not part of the the spoiler package and was ordered as RPO ZL2 special ducted hood option if it was a functional cowl hood. I believe there were about 10,026 optioned at a cost of $79.00 on the 69 models.

As for the spoiler kit, it was RPO Code D80 and was not shown on the cowl tag until mid year production. From there onwards (May 69) it was coded on the trim tag as D80 and immediately followed the line text for the X codes. This option included the front lower and rear deck spoiler and was included when Z28 is ordered. There were 19,040 cars optioned with this in 1969 at a cost of $32.65. Hope this is what you are asking about. I might be a bit off on a couple of these known facts and can't remember things like I once did so if anyone else can add to this, please chime in.

So if I understand correctly a 69 Camaro manufactured in March would NOT have the code on the trim tag even if the car was factory equipted with the spoiler option! Is this correct?

That would be correct. From what I have come to learn from others here on TC, April is the earliest date that any D80 codes appeared on the trim tags. A March car should be X77 (without special trim) and X33 (with special trim). If it was Produced beyond latre April and had the spoiler option, the cowl tag should denote this with X77D80 or X33D80.

I have owned both an X77D80 car and an X33D80 car where both are coded 06A (June) and both have the spoiler option denoted on the trim tag.

My 03E X-33 appears to be a factory installed spoiler car. It does not have the D80 on the cowl tag with the X33 ( which is correct). It does have the two different sizes of spring rods, the relocated emblem, and the factory paint stripe terminates under the spoiler. Just FYI as this seems to fit the conventional understanding of D80- no ZL2 on this car however.

My '69 RS convertible was built in October 1968 and doesn't have any X Code on the trim tag. I understand that this was the case until early 1969 when the appropriate X code was added.
