A friend is looking at a 1970 Z28 on Epay that does not have A.I.R, and the guy says that not all Z28,s came with smog pumps.
I thought that all Z28,s had smog Equipment, anybody care to comment?
Thanks in Advance.

I looked over at nastyz28.com and, at quick glance, did not come up with an answer. However, the photo they have for the 1970-72 LT-1 does have AIR. Might try going there, lots of good info on second gens.

Did all the '70 Z's come with a manual? I know in '69 the small block manuals got the smog and the automatics didn't....

Thanks for the replys!
I do know that all 69 Z28,s came with A.I.R., but i am not 100 % sure that 70,s were the same. My 42,000 mile Survivor 69 RSZ28 has the original smog stuff, and it was delivered to Beny Chev Olds in Lethbridge Alberta, Canada, so Canadian cars were not exempt from recieving A.I.R.
I have heard that all high horse, mechanical camshaft cars with manual trans got the Smog Stuff. All my old magazine road tests for 69/70 show smog equipment.
The car my friend is looking at is a manual trans June/70 car.
I also have a complete 6,000 mile 70 Z28 motor that was out of a roll over back in 71 and the stamp pad is V0707CTB which is a manual trans engine, and it has the smog stuff.
Seems kinda strange that a car made a month earlier would not have A.I.R.
I think that i have sorta answered my own post, but anyone please add their .25 worth.
Thanks in Advance.

I'm pretty sure that the determining factor in 70 was the tranny, not the engine. Manuals had the smog pumps, auto's didn't.

The 2nd gen site has an emisssions sertion that may help... http://www.nastyz28.com/2gcog/emissions.html

I was thinking by '70 - '71 both auto and stick cars got the smog pump but I don't know that for a fact...

Hello, I am an outspoken contributor at www.nastyz28.com. (ORIGNALALITY Forum) My first 70 Z-28 I ordered NEW after returning from VietNam. Turbo 400 "in the tree" WITH A.I.R. Lasted a month or so before I ripped everything off for headers, etc.
I will say that ALL 70 Camaros with solid lifters and Holly carbs had smog.....i.e. Z-28's & L-78's
Chuck Sharin.......see ya at Carlisle!!!!!
