I have an original 68Z, I had the body shell soda blasted which did an excellent job. It left an imprint from what I believe to be the old markings. It said "RAG 37". What did this stand for? My car is original Corvette bronze with black vinyl top, standard black interior, built 3rd week of June. Anyone have any info? Thanks

Most firewall markings have not been deciphered. Seems they were either written on the bare metal, or after the black was applied. My 68Z has "83" in the upper left quadrant of the firewall. I've done other cars that had such things as "R-ox" (red oxide?), and "W" on the bare metal. Most of the marking done after the blackout of the firewall refers to the color of the car; i.e. "RED", "DD", GREEN etc.

Please add my 2 cents. I also have 320 under the A/C suitcase. On the drivers side, there is the cowl tag info in crayon on the forward side of the tulip panel. What I mean is the options are written there. Never seen it on any car before, just this one.

The numbers most often refer or reflect the production number for the day. Also known as the sequence number. Look on top of the heater box if you can (use a mirror and light) and you will see the sequence number. That's the order or number car that was built that day. All or "most" of the options and components are built inline using the sequence tracking number. Mine has 35 written on the firewall, heater box, all 5 original 14" rims, frame, and rearend. The build sheet reflect sequence number 335..

Sorry it took soo long to get back on the net guys. Thanks for all of the replies. The "RAG" is located right above the heater box and the 37 is over toward the center of the firewall and right about were the firewall starts to slant down for the tranny tunnel.
