Are you refering to Yenko COPO's then no. However he may have installed a ZL1 engine in a car (any car) at a later date. Also Yenko purchased the tooling and produced an all aluminum engine which had the yenko crest cast on it.

Yenko crest ZL1 motors didn't come out till 1977....So it would have to be a 1969 ZL1 block if this is true... old Yenko Crest 427 ZL1 ad found and posted over at www.rabbitstoys.com Dan

I don't consider Yenko crested blocks true ZL1's. However Don transplanted many engine variations in cars (what ever the customer wanted)including L88's, so a true ZL1 may have been installed.

Yenko did build a 1969 COPO car with alu engine.
If your friend has a white Corvair, he may be right but I don't know of any Yenko street Camaros with alu engine.

Yenko built at least one 1969 Camaro race car with a ZL1 engine. He raced it at Daytona and Sebring 69-70.

This one is a red car with a black interior, no radio, no heater, dog dish hub caps just a plain jane type except for the cowl hood. No badages what so ever, if you saw it you would think that it was a real cheap 6 cylinder Camaro if it wasn't for the cowl hood, I'll post more when I find out more about it.

With the dog dish caps it sounds more like a COPO than a Yenko. If the engine is original to the car, then it would have to be a COPO. Try to get some vin's.

Joe58,Technically that 69 Camaro was Bob Grossmans from Nyack NY.Randy R from NJ built the car, started racing the Trans Am with a 302 and a Crossram in the beginning of 1969 (Really a 68 car made into a 69).Sponsered by Best Photo of Syracuse NY.Then sometime in 69 Don Yenko was a driver of this car with Bob.Car did have a 427 ZL1 motor in it for the Manufacturers International Championship races, car was retired sometime in the summer of 1970.Car was originally red with black interior, then went to white on the outside.Car has not been found, but have many vintage pictures of it...Dan

All I have seen is abot 4 good pic's of it, A friend is trying to buy it at this time. I'll know more sometime this weekend if he is able to buy it. It could be a Camaro that someone has just put the engine into, but from the pic's it lloks factory.

Dan, The car was owned by Grossman but I believe Yenko did the conversion to the ZL1 engine. I have some 8mm films from the Yenko estate that show the red 1969 Camaro being worked on in the Yenko Chevy garage then shows it at Sebring racing. Also I talked to the Yenko mechanic who remembers working on it with the ZL1 so I am pretty sure Yenko put the ZL1 in it. Grossman ran it at Daytona 69 with 302. Daytona 69 Yenko ran his ex Smokey Yunick 302 Camaro with Dick Guldstrand as co driver. Then Grossman and Yenko ran the Red Camaro with ZL1 engine at Sebring 69.

Joe58,I don't doudt that Yenko built the ZL1 for the car,I was just saying that Bob Grossman was the owner of the car.By the way, this car had direct connections to GM engineering,Mark Donohue living in Summit NJ at the time knew Randy R the builder of the car,got GM involved in this particuler car.The original fiberglass crossram hood given to Randy by GM engineering still exist, still red with the #5 on it....Dan
