Hi I have a 69 Camaro SS 396/375hp L78, with its orignal 4 speed M-21 muncie trans. The orignal Hurst has been replaced years ago by an after market Hurst shifter...
I have since bought the orignal Hurst Shifter handle #5325 and box number #3138 Correct for a 69 Camaro BB... Now I need the BB mounting plate... Ive seen them go for a lot on ebay, does anyone make repos? If they make repos, has anyone used it? how does the shifter fit? Thanks Josh

Will the $99 mounting kit fit right instead of the $199 jobber??
Heck, for $200, I would cobble something up in a heartbeat b/c I had to make a plate to fit a Comp+ to a 3-speed mount for my old P/U!! pdq67 |

The round stick Hurst shifter bolts to the trans similar to an aftermarket flat stick Hurst shifter. Chevy used a different tans mount bracket for a SB and BB Camaro that was a sheet steel stamping with weld-nuts. The aftermarket flat stick Hurst shifter used a heavy steel flat plate with flat head screws and a spacer and had the same installation kit for SB and BB.
In my experiance, the factory mount plates fit better then the Hurst aftermarket mount plate altough the aftermarket Hurst mount works ok. I have seen the repro SB mount plate and it is a pretty good copy of the original. The only difference I could see is the shape of the welded on thread nuts. I have not seen the repro BB mount plate but heard it is also pretty close to the original. |
