I am building a 406ci sbc for a g body but i am wanting to put one in a newer car. I was wanting to know if anyone has put a carbureted motor in a f body 93-97 and what kind of trouble did you run into.

If this is a daily driver then it won't pass the visual inspection at your local I/M station for one thing. You will never get to drive this thing anywhere except the race track.

Not sure where he is from but in GA we don't have a visual inspection, just emissions.
Doesn't help with his question but....... |

The way the 4th gen is setup you may run into issues with the distributor as the engine sets deep under the cowl. Other issues will be engine mounts and pan clearence. These are over come when installing an LT1 in an older car so reverse engineering may work. I don't know how you'll get around the dist issue though...
My advice is keep the LT1 and hotrod it with aftermarket parts (heads, cam etc) and have something better than the 406...

i saw a mid 90's Z28 at the dragstrip once with an old school carb'ed small block. the distributor was waaaaay back under the cowl, and they actually had to cut a notch in the cowl just to get the carb in there. it had a Victor Jr intake with a 1" spacer, and the bottom of the carb was just barely lower than the cowl. they had a HUGE cowl hood on it- like 6" tall- just to cover it up- which looked really dorky on such a sleek car.
but it would bolt right in using stock LT1 mounts and manifolds or headers. not something i'd want to try- the engine would have to come out just to remove the distributor.

i've seen it done MANY MANY times... you WILL have to cut a notch in the cowl for the distributor.. other than that.. its basically a bolt in deal if you already have the V-8 mounts...
