One of the four bolt holes that holds the input shaft retainer is in bad shape. Can I have this heli-coiled or is it time for a new casing. If it can be done, what would be a reasonable expense for such a fix?

heli-coil's are usually stronger than the original threads(if done correctly).
shouldn't be a problem.you'll need a drill(press would be better).and some steady nerves!i believe the kits are around $70 but i think they come with taps or drill bits,or both. where's BillK when you need him?LOL! Eric

Helicoils will work fine. I think Wally www.muncie4speed.com automatically does every hole in the transmissions he rebuilds. If you brought it to me for repair it would be $20 per hole.
