My wife has a 97 Z28 that now has 97,000 miles on it and I think it is time to change the plugs. I have worked on small block chevys all my life but this looks like it is going to be a real challenge.
Any tips for this process would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance>

first off, make sure you use a spark plug socket with the rubber bing inside so it grips the plug when you are taking it out. Second, if you are going to change the dis. cap, keep the original one on the car, until you replace the plugs, then transfer the wires over to the new one, that way you dont screw up ithe ignition. Maybe look up the firing order for the engine, and the dis cap, so you can double check everything after. Another thing, it wouldnt be a bad idea to have a few ratchet extensions laying around, cuz you never know when youll need them. A telescopic mirror also works, to see around those tight corners. Last off, when you just cant seem to get at a certain plug, try from underneath the car, or the bottom if you have a lift.

ooops almost forgot. Does the car have a auto tranny??? When you finish up the plug replacing, start the motor, and put your hand on the valve covers, if a misfire occurs you will feel a noticable jerk in the motor. If you have a automatic tranny, put the car in drive with your foot on the brake, and apply a little bit of gas for a few seconds. This helps to load everything up. Once again....
Happy Plug replacing |

dont use bosh plugs, use ac delco what came out of it, i dont think u want to change the dis cap you have to take the water pump off to do so, this is a very hard plug change its best if you have a rack. some of the plugs are easyer from under the car. have fun!!!

Just to let you know how bad it will be, I was told GM flat rate is 8 hrs to replace plugs on a 4th gen Z/28. Thank god it takes less than a hour for me to change them on my '01 V6.

67SS , can you tell me why not to use Bosch plug? I made a change last year on a 2000 Ls1 TA and replaced with Msd wires and standard single electrode tip Bosch... Something I should look out for? These were the plated body plugs,, I applied a anti sieze on the threads...

Good news/bad news: They're not too bad to change. . . from under the car. Only one of the plugs was easy to reach from the top, all the others I did from under the car. Good luck.
