The stamped VIN inside the bellhousing above the cam story is bogus; the engines arrived at Norwood with the flywheel, clutch, and bellhousing already installed from the engine plant, and nobody at Norwood took them apart to stamp the VIN in an oddball location, especially one digit at a time. The VIN he shows is missing the first digit, which would have been a "5", and that would have placed it around Christmas; we built them in February and March (except the first two).

You sure it would have been a 5??? The list of the zl1 vin numbers I have show the first car as 569358 and the last as 650977. Car #49 on my list is 619979. Which would have been march. But this list could be wrong. Were the casting dates of the blocks the same month as the build??

"The block was devcon filled, which means the water jackets of the block were filled with a solid filler to strengthen the block"
Kinda mute, Looks like the water jackets were filled as well. Can you even remove this? I *think* this block is useless unless it is in a drag car. Rich |
