This is one of those long time myths or at least misunderstood areas. Standard volume pumps supply plenty of oil pressure/volume unless you have an external oil cooler and plumbing etc or real high tolerances changing the volume "footprint" of the oiling system. Then go with a upgrade. Using the high volume pumps on standard volume blocks just eats hp and unnecessary wear on the pump/cam gears.

Totally agree - go with standard and look for 10 psi per 1000 RPM at most. Been using a Melling standard pump on my 421 SBC for 4 years with no problems and getting a consistent 612 hp out of it. Crank scrapers are good for a few hp as well.

Look at the blueprinted Moroso STANDARD VOLUME pump.
You do not need a high volume pump.

Eric: are you referring to the #22100 pump and if so is it dimensionally the same as a melling standard volume pump? I want to use the milodon 30900 pan and suggested pickup for the melling pump #18311. What pan and pickup are you using?
Ken.
