Default Car Craft chassis dyno mishap....

Well i didnt get on it cause it was 85 bucks i didnt have....but some cat with a model A from minnesota got on there with a PUMP GAS 598ci big block chevy and 2 stages of nitrous. His first run was on the the first stage only and he layed down like 905 hp @ the wheels. Impressive. The next run they made everyone clear back a bit wich was a sign of things to come. They started the dyno and the car MAX'D they dyno out at 1,200 rwhp and broke the friggen dyno straps and they let go sending the car flying off the barrels on chassis dyno, thank God for a quick reaction from the fellow at Werx motorsports he had the car stopped and shut off almost the split second it happened, about another 3 feet or so and that car would have gone off the trailer and somone would have gotten seriously hurt, and when your talking about a car that was going probably 150+mph on a dyno that 3 or 4 feet is a fraction of a second. But hats off the 1,200 pump gas horsepower model A and a heck of a show. Im tellin ya ive never seen power layed down like that before right in front of my face and it was almost scary watching the entire car coil up when it was getting up there in power......but man was it cool

Cool Re: Car Craft chassis dyno mishap....

So those "straps" are good for @ 1200 HP - that's good information to know...

That guy was there 2 years ago, when I went also. He registered over 900 hp on the rear wheels on just the motor then. I believe it registered just over 1200 with the nitrous also. Sounds like not much has changed. It was awesome though. I talked to the guy, he was very friendly. Lucky no one got hurt in that mishap.

I think someone screwed up royally when they strapped the car down. The straps on our Dynojet are rated to about 10,000# each, and there are 4 of them, and a 1200 rwhp car barely puts a real load on them.

the straps were hitting the exhaust and melted, you can see them burn right at the end of the clip

Great save by the model A driver, but I don't understand all the hooting and hollering. "Woohoo!....somebody almost got killed!....WOOHOO!"

I'd be checking for damage, not screaming with delight.
