Hey guys, Hopefully this isn't a stupid question. Does anyone know how much horsepower you can run in a 67 camaro without putting too much stress on the body or the frame. I don't want to install sub frame connectors. Is 425 h.p too much? What about 500 h.p?

Sure, It show's up over time by making cracks at the rear window lower "V's" first.
And a powerful car can also "wrinkle" the area in front of each lower rear wheel well if I remember right, (read S/F/C's needed!), as well as crack the windshield! Donno about hp required to do this damage to them tho, b/c my car was always pretty mild except for the time I had the full house, .060" over, 11.5 to 1 CR., with "trips" 409 "W" motor in it! My car has the small cracks in it now!! AND I finally after all these years installed a pair of Jegs bolt-on S/F/C's!! It amazed my how much easier it is to jack it up from the side now with them installed!! pdq67 |

depends on a lot of issuse like gear ratio tire selection how hard you hammer on it etc.. but I had a 69 with 525 horse without frame conectors with 3:73 12 bolt and 295 50 15`s never had any problems!

I plan on running a 3.73 posi rear end and won't be drag racing it on the strip. I want to go the pro touring look, so I will probably run 17x8 on the rear and 17x7 on the front with street tires. I will most likely use the car for cruising, but don't want to tear the car apart if I get on it every once and awhile.

No Farm Boy,
The old 409 "W" motor dropped right in using all of my small block stuff including Z-bar! I had manifolds on it and even used two driver side Imp. 2.5" dia. exhaust pipes by cutting one and rewelding it 180 degrees and then bolting them on. I also had (2) long, 2.5" thrush glasspacks welded end to end under the cab and a little 2.0" x 12" g/p under the gas tank as a resonator down each side! Talk about CACKLE!!! I did however get a '66 Buick Skylark H-D, A/C, 4-core rad. to cool it b/c my skinny, 350 rad. wasn't up to the task! But I had to strap and top bolt it in place b/c it didn't have stock side mounts like our cars rad's have. 421", (.060" overbore, 409") "W" motor, 11.5 to 1 CR forged pistons, I installed 2.19"/1.72" valves and ground h-ll outta the heads, NASCAR solid cam and a hogged out 348 trip cast-iron intake with (3) big 2GC Rochester 2-barrels on it off of 389 Pontiac 2-barrel motors... Yes, I still loved the chrome "W" valve covers but after reworking the intake, the great big round chrome double snorkle intake wouldn't fit. pdq67 |

cool! One of my Dad's friends has a 348 in a 54 Chevy lowrider 2 door with black paint and very little chrome on it. It's a great street rod. 3 dueces up top.

I think that about 350 HP is safe without SFC's. Yes you can run more but a 67 Camaro is 38 years old . . . and its unibody in back. It won't break right away with more HP, but you WILL do damage to the structure in the long run.

The amout of horsepower isn't an issue. Torque is whats going to do it, and I thing with enough traction a 6 could do it if driven like Warren Johnson. If it never hooks, it isn't a problem no matter how much hp/tq.

Does anyone have any pictures of SFC's that they either welded or bolted to their camaro? I was curious how they looked once they were installed.

This isn't a picture of subframe connectors, but you can see them if you look close.
