Default Fuel System Pressure

HI All, spent some time and re-did the entire fuel system in my 68. Tank,Sender,Pump, Lines..etc. Anyway Now I noticed after driving when I take the Gas Cap off there is pressure that is released. Anyway, I am sure that was not the case with my old systems because it was so full of leaks. Anyway is this pressure in the tank normal or something to be worried anout??

Thanks

our cars have (should have) vented caps. There shouldn't be any pressure or vacaum in the tank. Maybe your cap isn't venting? Did you paint it?

HI, Thanks for the reply...Didn't paint it. I have tried 2 caps..Both are vented. One was a new one and one was an older repop. Also Had a hard time re-starting the car after it had ran for a while. That never happened before...wondering if that has something to do with the pressure.

Thanks

My Bad, just looked at both Caps...They don't seem to be vented (Not sure what a vented cap looks like though). Is there any way to drill a small hole in them to "make" them vented...I just paid 40 bucks for the new cap.

Thanks

I take it back again...Both caps are vented (Too many beers today). Now with a vented cap what wood cause a build up of pressure in the tank?

some caps have a check ball in them, if it builds pressure your ok but if if builds vaccume you have problems. to check look at the back side of the cap ,tank side, you should see a small hole, if you can suck through the cap dont worry. then try blowing through the hole if you cant there is a check ball, probably something for emissions laws.
