I have heard that if you use a FOrd remote starter solenoid wired to the GM starter it will take care of the problems with the starters that have troubles due to headers. If this is true how do you wire up the Ford solenoid to the GM starter? Have any of you guys done this mod? Was it effective?

Another solution you might consider is a heat wrap.I bought one from
Summit for $19.95 and got it the following day with a free hat. Big block Chevy used to heat sink the starter after about 30 minutes of driving, problem go bye-bye.

I personally like the aluminum heat shields. They are two layers thick and allow plenty of air flow around the starter. The blankets hold moisture, promote rust, and keep the starter hot if you ever have to crank the engine a long time such as when you run out of fuel.

I've done that to all of my race cars and it's really easy to do and works very well. Here's what you do:
1-Buy a good Ford solonoid and mount it on the firewall or somewhere that's convenient. 2- Remove the wires from the starter and transfer them up to the remote solonoid. (You will want to disconnect the battery before doing any of this by the way) The solonoid should have an "I" and "S" above or below the two small posts so make sure you hook up the wires correctly. 3- you will need to buy one battery cable. Hook it up to the solonoid and then to the starter batt post. 4- Install a 10ga jumper wire on the starter between the batt post and the "S" terminal. 5- Hook up the batt and your ready to go. |
