You need Spybot S&D which is FREE!!

http://www.safer-networking.org/

Download it, install it, use the update feature to get the latest updates, then have it scan and fix your system.

Hey Z28man,
I'm no expert but it sounds like you got hit with a virus.
Same thing happened to me a couple of years ago but my virus software caught it. I did have to go back and reconfigure my homepage settings under options on Internet Explorer if I recall correctly.
Read this - it's one, I'm sure there are many others.

Is your virus software current? Do you update it often? I see new virus definitions coming out almost every two days. My system does virus updates automatically now when I log on the internet AND I still go on and check manually every couple of days by habit. It's the best protection you can have for known viruses and it will catch that kind of stuff.

Download and run AdAware also along with SPyBot. They'll both catch different things.

Check out this site.... it's got everything in one place for you plus a Stinger which checks for virus's that screw up your anti-virus software.
