After realizing that I have been addicted to chewing tobacco for over half of my life(Im 31),I finally decided to quit.
Until about 2 weeks ago I was using a can per day,and I quit cold turkey. For about the first 4 days I ate everything in site, but its not quite as bad now.
But now I seem to really enjoy drinking, alot
am I going to turn into a raging alcoholic or what,do I need to have atleast 1 bad habit at all times.Maybe I just need a good butt whoopin

Anyone have any advice or live neer enuff to come kick my (l)

D@m, a can a day! I still can't understand how people smoke packs of cigarettes a day, nasty habit. I have a keg of beer on tap at home all the time and I was worried I would end up drinking too much, too often. Nope, I haven't even had a beer at home since the SuperBowl. I thought I would drink more in the winter since you get stuck in the house, but it hasn't been a problem. Hang in there.

I was in the same boat, a tin and a half of copenhagen a day at the high point. One day I went to the dentist and he said 'do you dip', and I thought, ok, here goes, he's gonna yell at me. I said, yes I do, he said, well, just move it around from side to side. I said, arent you supposed to tell me to stop? He said, if I told you that, would you? No. lol. Found a white spot on my gums about 6 years ago, its still there, no bigger, no smaller. In college I woke up a couple times with bloody gums. Now, if that wouldnt convince you to stop, I dont know what would. I loved dipping though. Best thing I found to help, since most of it seems to be physical addiction (whithout sounding gay) of putting a cigerette or dip in your mouth, I bought a bag of those small baby carretts or beef jerky and gnawed on that all day. Keep strong, you can do it.

67 I think I am right on this statistics say it takes 21 days to break a habit,I smoke a pack every 2-3 days, and I dip a can every 3-4 days not much use but I know it is still bad for me I,m 40 years old and I know better, and I think about quiting alot espicially when my little girl (7) tells me I need to quit, talk about ripping your heart out.And also socially it is basically unacceptable. But until I am completly ready to quit for me and nobody else I wont be able to.I appluaud you and I know you will be sucessful.

Click only if you have a strong stomach.. That should be enough to make you want to give it up forever..

After looking at the pictures, think about if your wife would want to kiss that mouth.. Or your kids..

Thanks for all the help fellas.
Yep I have kids, and listening to my 8yr old daughter say "dad please quit chewing" has had a huge effect on my quitting the copenhagen.
At the shop today one of my buddies opened his can and had a dip,I told him he only has a couple seconds before I kill him and take his can of cope. lol

Gave it up 4 yrs ago after 25yrs of use. Copenhagen was the brand of choice. Had a dip in all day every day. There are many more reasons to give it up than continue. Stay strong.

I chewed two can's of skoal a day for many year's , about 18 to be exact , when I started it was 0.45 cent's a can , I bought one can at $2.00 took it home looked at it then threw it in the creek beside my house , never bought another , I know that is not the reason most people quit but for me it came down to a choice between food or skoal ? food won

WOW.... I think I am alot like "Jeff H" in that I am not an additive personality and I can't comprehend the struggle and addition to anything.

Hate is a strong word that I rarely use, but my wife smokes and I completely HATE it. I understand the fact that she has to want to quit for her, but it just seems meanwhile my daughter and I suffer for it.

The closest I came to this was an addition to Coca-Cola a few years ago. My only source of fluid intake for about 10 years straight was Coca-Cola Classic and all of a sudden I notice some blodd in my urine!! Called my Doctor and he asked me a few "personal" questions and then asked if I drink dark soda. I told him yes; all of the time, and he told me to switch to water or milk of if I had to drink soda to go with clear sodas like 7-up or Sprite, etc. So I did and I got caffeine withdrawals and killer headaches for a few weeks. I have since switched to about 99% water intake and an occasional soda or a few beers if the mood strikes me.

I wish you the best luck and hope you do it for yourself and your family!

I also chew about a can a day. I started about the age of 15 and am now 31. For the first time ever I tried to quit a few weeks ago. It seemed real easy the whole week until Saturday night (poker night) came around and I started drinking beer. Now I'm chewing again. My daughter is only 2, and last weekend when we were outside I saw her trying to spit on the grass. That broke my heart and I'm on a mission to quit again. Maybe only chew on Saturday nights... yea right. Good luck to all of you

I dipped Kodiak. I went through about a can a day. I dipped for 8 years. I used to pack the biggest fatties, but I switched sides each time. I tried to quite many times but failed. I used the patch. I haven't dipped since. The last time I had a dip Dale Earnhardt won the Daytona 500.
