Default 2002 Camaro 30,000 miles Fuel Pump Whining

I have a mint 2002 camaro v6 and I notice that the fuel pump starts to whine when I am sitting stop in traffic. The noise is coming from the rear passenger side. i think its the fuel pump becasue while sitting idle in brutal traffic the whining noise got lower when the idle dropped abit on its own. The longer you sit the louder it starts to get. While annoying you cant hear it withthe radio on Is it going to leave me stranded. The car hardly has any miles on it. Whats the deal. Help

So either no one has ever had a whine in the rear of a 4th generation camaro or no one really works on camaros anymore. I thought this group would be informative. I hope the mechanics out there are more useful then this group or its time to trade into a ford mustang. When I had my ford I got a response from their board in a few minutes. And I had it from new with virtually no problems till about 80,000 miles. If Camaros start breaking down at 30,000 plus then they are built like ****. One thing I love about my car is how it holds the road more stable then my ford but if I have to worry about breakdowns then its not worth it. Maybe thats why they scrapped them.

Great way to get people to help you on a forum...

Is your fuel pump inside the tank on a 4th gen? It is not uncommon to hear the in tank whine on the 99-02 pickups, maybe it is the same on your car.

ya a lot of gm pumps make noise, and on some it is normal but on others it is a sign of a dying pump
you could run a pressure test and see how well the pump is keeping up with demand

but most of the reason you didnt get a response is because most of this site is about 1st gen camaros

I must say your follow-up didn't exactly make me want to gush forth with an answer.

Attacking folks is no way to get help... We try to help where possible but don't want to feed you answers you can't use. I just realized you only waited 5 hrs through our slowest time of the day and came back attacking folks. Good luck you'll need it with your approach?

Don't know how mechanically inclined you are but I would try to check the fuel bypass valve or solenoid , what ever controls pressure . Check to see if you are sending unused fuel back to tank. My guess is 1) it pressuring up and causing the pump to overload. 2) getting ready to check out . My son has a ws6 and he has about 80k on it and it whines a little but he listens to rock. 3) its a female and need to take it shopping.

My 94 pherd F150 used to buzz like crazy. Have you ever run the tank dry or frequently run it low? The pump lubricates and cools itself with the fuel. If figure low / empty fuel is a prime contributor to problems. I agree that a pressure test is a good thing to do. See if autozone will loan you one. If the pressure is good, you may want to listen to rock as zdld17 suggested or buy a new pump.

Hear is another thought, make sure the mounting for the pump is in place and flexible. Perhaps fuel has stiffened the rubber and made it transfer vibration more.
