Default Parts From Different Plants on Same Car ??

Just wondering if the Norwood & Los plants ever swapped parts with each other when there was a shortage at their own plant?

The reason I'm asking is because upon stripping my 69 LA built car I have noticed that I have at least one body panel that has a tag that reads NOR. This is on the drivers side door. I also know for a fact that both doors along with all other metal is original.

Thanks in advance!

Dan

The door is probably what has the tag on it. They were put there in case there was warranty work to be done on the car. Chances are very doubtful that your car came from VanNuys with stickers from both plants. The door was probably replaced at one time. What exactly are the numbers on the tags?? They would say LOS or NOR then a 1 or 2 digit number. The number is week 1-52.

Nope - the plants were 2500 miles apart, and they didn't put racks of raw stampings on airplanes. That door glass warranty verification tag was installed in the Trim Shop, after paint.

Well, this is weird then...because I bought this car from the second owner who has had it since 1992....he bought it from the original owner Here in AZ who claimed it was all original and never wrecked.

The car was orginally Dover White and it was that color when the second owner bought it. Now this door in question has the Dover White paint and overspray on the inside of door behind the door panel....exactly like the passenger side!

Also the tag has no numbers on it....It's just a sticker that says NOR. I'll get a pic tommorow.

And if it is a replacement door...Then I guess it was OK to ship it all the way from from Norwood?

Maybe they got a white replacement door from a norwood car that had made its way into a junk yard in AZ. All buyers say their car has never been wrecked, because you would most likely not buy it even if the car was repaired correctly. I bet thousands of people on this site were told the same story and when doind a ground up they found two inches of bondo.

It was not installed like that from the factory.
Could have been an early service replacement door. There should be a week stamp on the door, eg H34.

Heck I know someone who worked in cleanup at the local Chevy-Olds dealer. He was backing a Old's 88 out of the shop and caught the door on a steel post. The body shop had to take a door from another car on the lot because the customer was coming to pickup up his new car the next morning. Lucky for them the color was common and they had 2 other 88's on the lot to take from. Chances are good they never said a word about it.

I agree with the others, just because someone says it was not damaged, does not mean its so. They likely never thought there was anyway to to ever know that.
