Default 327 motor mounts

I am new to this forum and have recently acquired a 68 camaro with a 327 and a powerglide. As it turns out I need a couple of motor mounts. Does anybody know if the left and right mounts are the same mount or are they different?

if they're like mine, they are different mounts, but the mounts for any small block will work.

The motor mounts should be the same. The engine stands that bolt to the frame are right and left. Also the mounts need to match the stands that you have. Check out Dave's site for info on motor mounts. http://www.pozziracing.com/camaro_engine.htm

L1tech -

Welcome to the best First Gen Camaro site on the Web!

The motor mounts are the same left and right, not different. The frame stands are different left to right, but not the mounts themselves.

You will, however, have to be careful which mounts you get. The low performance models (327/210, 307 in 69, and some 327/275 cars) got one type of mount, and the high performance (302, 350, and 396) got a different mount. If you get them from a local parts place, you may want to check the different engine sizes to see if replacements carry different part numbers for different sizes.

The original style low perf mounts had some issues because they were not interlocking, and the rubber could shear and cause the engine to rock, sticking the throttle open or other bad things. There was a recall that fitted a strap to deal with the problem. It may be that all replacements are now interlocking, but I'm not certain. You'll be able to tell by looking.

Either type of mounts will work for you, but the 302/350/396 mounts supposedly set the motor back toward the firewall a little. No big deal, but you might have to loosen the trans mount to slide it all back a little.

If you ever think you want to try to shoehorn a big GM style HEI distributor in there, the lower performance mounts are supposed to make that easier (as far as clearing the firewall).

You can get good quality mounts from someplace like GroundUp ( www.ss396.com ) or Rick's (www.firstgen.com), or like I said you can get them local.

I'd also have to add that the ones I've gotten from the local parts store were way different (incorrect) from the ones I got from Ricks.

Talking Re: 327 motor mounts

When you do purchase a set of mounts I would recommend a set of polyurethane from Energy Suspension. I put as set in my 68 with a 327 last year and they work great. Keeps the motor nice and tight! Unless you are going for the original look that is. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Rusty. Grab yourself a set of poly mounts and be done with it.

I purchased mine through Jegs. I later found out that AutoZone sells them as well. Don't know if you have that store where you are located. They can order them for you and it will save you shipping if they're not in stock. I'm sure that other chains have them too. The company name is Energy Suspension. Hope that helps!
