Default 68 Title advice

Hello,I'm looking for advice on a title question!!!!I live In the State of Ohio, and upon completion of My 68 Pro street Camaro I will have to turn in the original title to the State to be reissued so I may get plates. The title is from the original owner with signatures of the 3 owners between him and I,It gives the dates and other valuable history to my car that I don't want to lose,It also proves it was only titled for street use once,as it lived its life after 2800 miles on the Quarter mile.Has anyone got an Idea how to avoid this problem.

Most states will take these papers when they issue you a new title in your name. I made copies of everything before re-registering.

Have the last person that it was titled to apply for a new title saying the old one was lost.

Take a good look at the back of the title. In most states there is only one reassignment to an individual. The otheres are for reassignments to dealers. If you did not get the car from the dealer you are going to have problems. The state is going to want thier sales tax and registration fees. That means you have to go back to the first seller, he has to title the vehicle in his name, sign it over to the next guy, he has to do the same thing and repeat as necessary until it gets to you. I sure do hope those are dealer assignments on the back of your title or that Ohio is different than most states. Good Luck.

Don't know about OH - but Kansas SUCKS. I gave up an original owner title - they would not budge, give it back, or even consider it. We even have a friend who is a State Rep & got us names to call.... no exceptions.

The application for a lost title is a great idea - I wish I had thought of it. However, this assumes the original owner can be found since the other owners have no right to apply for title, only who the title was last issued to. But, that could solve the other problem of mulitple reassignments (if there is one) - which is to have the original owner sign it over to you directly. Find this guy and be his best friend - otherwise, I'm afraid its going to be a trip to Kinko's.

Good luck!!
