Default real rs?

Is there a way to tell from the vin or the trim tag if my 68 is a real rs? Its a previously one owner car and he claims so, but it would be nice to know for sure.

nope neither of those tell if its RS or not. 68 is about the most difficult to tell if its RS unless you can see the car yourself. Do you have access to it? Any paperwork on the car at all? POP card or dealer window sticker etc?

Unfortunately I have zero paperwork with it. Heres the short of it:

Saw an ad in the paper for a 68 RS/SS as a project. Boy he wasnt kidding, it was ALL apart, no paint, no drivetrain, no interior. Literally just a unibody and parts. The parts included a mix of bb and sb stuff (sb heater box cover, bb heater core, bb springs, etc) so it was a jumble. Only thing I can say for sure, is it has front disks, power steering and multi leaf rear end. There is no engine or transmission with it, and the only thing the trim tag seems to tell me is that it had a v8 but after that its anyones guess. Front fenders have RS options but are replacements. No previous pics of it, no paperwork whatsoever. On the up side I got it for a song, so I really dont care if its real or not, but for potential future resale, Id like to know.

Hi Bob,

I've been working on a document geared towards helping to identify an RS, particularly the 68's. Check it out, maybe it will help. Look for the little clues like reverse light harness and headlight switch.

Bob -

The two most obvious RS clues on a 68 that are difficult to fake are:

- 1 inch diameter hole stamped (not cut) in the firewall near the brake booster/master cylinder (to the driver side) that the RS vacuum lines went through.

- Reverse light holes stamped into rear valance, not cut.
