Once it hits the showroom floors, who here will be the first to buy one?
I have to admit that although I am happy that they didn't kill it all together, I still like the Dodge Challenger better. Once the Challenger hits production, I have every intention of buying one. Even if I have to dip into my 401k to do it, I WILL have one of those machines. The only thing I'm trying to find out now is the rate of depreciation the Challenger will have once it leaves the showroom floor, and would it be better to buy it new, or wait for maybe a year or two before putting out the cash for it. What do you think the depreciation value will be for the HEMI version of this car after about two years

If I have to wait until 2009 I'd have to pick the Challenger. Although some of the photoshop versions are starting to look pretty good.
As for the depreciation, you can get a sense from the prices for a used Hemi magnum or 300M. |

Depreciation in the first ??5 years?? say 1/3 (I have no idea). I would guess it would depend on how many made.
As for the Camaro, I might have to wait an extra year or two due to wife's accident ( had to buy Her a new truck 7 years too early ) But I'm liking the new Camaro more and more.

I watched the broadcast of the unveiling here at work (a chevrolet dealer) what i saw was when asked IF the car would be built, when can we expect it? the response from the head man was they can't say for sure at this time that it will even see production..........

If public support is there, then the car is supposed to come in 2009. If the support isn't there then there wasn't anything said on whether or not it would come. I'm thinking if the support isn't there, it's going to be somewhat like the SSR. Very pricey, making it unaffordable for most people out there. You think with the success Ford is having with the retro mustang, then GM would be jumping on bringing back a nostalgic GTO and Camaro maybe even bring back the Chevelle and Nova. I think it would be a very good decision and maybe get them out of the slump they got themselves into.

I'll be one of those dropping a deposit on one. My truck will be paid off next year. I plan on continuing the payment but into a seperate account at my bank. I figure with about 2 years to save I should have about $12,000 to put down on the purchase. Fully loaded, 6 speed gearbox, leather seats, finance it for 3 years. Bada-bing-bada-boom!

Public support??? Well according to a poll done in the detroit free press the camaro was the most popular car at the show.. I hope that is enough for them to build one

Unfortunately - a Detroit Free Press poll will not be enough to gaurantee production of this car !!! Living in the Detroit area (muscle car heaven by the way) - I read that paper almost daily and at the time they declared it the most popular car - it was based on 100 reponses - hardly confirmation of mass appeal - especially coming from a town where a significant portion of its population is employed by GM. If you could get this type of reaction at an L.A. Auto Show - it might raise a few more eyebrows downtown!!!
I heard that they need 180,000 in annual sales to make money on this car. Ford is right now ramping up production of its Mustang to this exact same number - a 70% increase in volume !! Can the Camaro compete with the Mustang??(yes) Can the market bear twice as many new muscle cars ?? (hmmm -I hope so....)

It will be just like the 1997 Corvette, when it was announced, a good number of long time Corvette forum members picked it apart, swore they'd never part with their beloved C4 Corvettes to buy one.
Within a year, most of the complainers had one in their garage LOL I think there are plenty of '69 styling queues in the Camaro Concept, although a lot of guys post they don't. I'd buy one the way it sits right now
