Default Pillar Post Molding fitament problem

Hi -

I have a 68 convertible with a white top and a medium blue interior. I recently got a new top put on and was looking to replace a few other things.

I purchased new pillar post moldings. they are made by OER and do not fit properly - I have called Ricks and Classic Industries and had 5 other sets now measured for length and they all appear to be consistent @ 15.5 inches on the short side as measured.

My question is - has anyone else had a problem with these? I do not have the originals - they were all warped and were discarded. Note that they appear about 1 inch too short, and won't fit under the top clasp as they are supposed to. They have been temporarily attached with the phillips head screw in the picture.

The bottom is flush on the dash - note that the dash pad appears to have been replaced and is trimmed in - I assume the dash would normally sit on top of the lip of these as installed.

Can someone post pictures of theirs so I can see if mine are installed correctly or if this is a part defect? I am at a loss, and any and all help would be appreciated!!!

Matt Smith

Thats really too bad I wish the repro houses would test fit the parts more! On a more helpful note, since you have nothing, you might try a repro coupe one and cut it to size and save the covering. Not sure if it would work, but its a thought. Luck

Those repro's really suck. I bought them and I hated them too. Start watching e-bay for a used set. Someone on here may have a set they're willing sell. I lucked out and found a used set on here.

Arrrgh!!

I just got a response from Classic Industries which said that they measured a convertible they had on hand and that the moldings are supposed to be 15.5 inches. They further went on to say that it looked like I was missing the header moldings from the pictures!!

Needless to say that I have BRAND NEW header moldings and that the original pillar moldings fit when I removed them a while ago.

Please respond to me and let me know how many people have had problems with the repo's being too short?

Does someone have a measurement of the shorter side of the moldings? The repos are approx 15.5 inches long, measured on the screw side from end to end.

THANKS AGAIN for any help with this!!!
