An aluminum engine.
Basically its a big block SS with a ZL1 engine, and a ZL1 hood. |

That's all that was required. Very few of them had any additional options over the few required options that were mandated, the 12 bolt axle, power front disc brakes, multi leaf springs, ZL2 cowl induction hood, dual exhaust. When you pay 4000 for an engine option in a 3200 car. You had to have deep pockets to afford any other options. There were 69 of them out there, the VINs and option lists for each of them used to be on COPO.com.

You guys are forgetting about the goodies inside the 12 bolt that all COPO's got. Heavy duty posi unit # 3916234, 69 MacNeish book pg 69, Special heat treated ring and pinion, special side gears with 16 teeth vs. 18 teeth, 9 clutch plates per side.

I'm also forgetting about the 6 tab torque converters on the TH400 equipped cars. Didn't say there wasn't special stuff used within the standard options on the ZL1 cars, just that they didn't require any options beyond those that a big block SS wouldn't have had.
