Hey guys,
Has anyone purchased new quarter panels for a 67 Camaro that fit correctly etc. If so please e-mail me with the manufacturer or source. I would like to hear about ones that did not fit also but would prefer e-mail rather than bad-mouthing here on this forum.

Hi Bill- I have seen the panels you're talking about. The ones I have seen were made in Taiwan, at the hands of Classic Industries. They don't look too bad, but I can't tell you how they fit. I CAN tell you they aren't perfect and will need a little work. If you want further details, feel free to e-mail me.

Hey Bill, just a note. Remember with these early Camaros the 1/4s were different depending on whether the car did or didnt come with wheel opening moldings. Make sure to get the ones you need for your car.
I used one of the skin panels from Classic on a 67 convertible.. It was about as good as I could expect for a skin. The metal was pretty good with only minor defects. Fit was ok but with these skins its pretty much do whatever it takes to make it fit.

I think a valuable part of these forums is the exchange of info - both good and bad. If someone has a bad experience with a part or vendor that should be part of the game. Certainly, it can be explained as an experience without getting into name calling. I think of it as a form of Better Business Bureau.
Having said that, I don't think you're going to find repro quarters that don't require a fair amount of work to get them right. I bought a quarter from a name supplier and was horrified to see scratches. So I went to a local supplier and was surprised to see the same thing.
You'd be as well off to spend your time investigating a good body shop.

As far as the scratches go, you will find them in even the best quality NOS panels or even any part you can buy from GM or any of the other suppliers.
The biggest thing with buying repro parts is making sure they are formed correctly without distortions, wrinkles, or splits in the metal with all the right diminsions.
You will find minor imperfections in any sheet metal parts but that again is why you need the relationship with a good bodyman or body shop like you said.

Bill, I put the "skins" on both sides of my '68. One side fit very well, and was welded up in no time. The other side was a repair job from hell, Had to "fake" in the blasted thing. All this just to repair a little lip damage. The new panels that go over the upper edge to the edge of the trunk are a better option. They were not avaliable at the time I did my repairs. No matter what you get, It will probably use a skim coat of filler, and plenty of block sanding. Your best bet is to marry the daughter of a good bodyman. I did!

Thanks for all the reply's. I posted this one for the guys at the Harley shop next to me as they have a 67 the are planning to fix up. I have showed them all your answers and left them alone to make a decision.

IF AT ALL POSSIBLE TRY AND STAY AWAY FROM ANY REAR QUARTERS THAT DON'T COME WITH THE UPPER SAIL ON THEM. IF YOUR CAR HAS HAD THESE PARTIALS WELDED ON BEFORE, GOOD LUCK TRYING TO GET THEM TO FIT PROPERLY. FINALLY AVAILABLE IN 1998 ARE REAR QUARTERS THAT ARE MANUFACTURED USING ORIGINAL GM DYES AND THESE ARE CAN BE BOUGHT @ CLASSIC INDUSTRIES. THEY ARE A LITTLE BIT OF MONEY BUT YOU CAN SAVE IN THE LONG RUN BY NOT PAYING FOR THE TIME TO FIT THE PARTIALS. BEST BET THOUGH IS TRY AND FIND SOME ORIGINAL QUARTERS (BIG BUCKS). AND THAT COMMENT ABOUT THERE BEING SCRATCHES ON A PANEL - DON'T THEY ALL?????

I purchased a Quarter Panel from on of the large companies and it fit so bad that the body shop did not even want to mess with it. I sent it back and called every company I could think of and they all had the same part which is supposed to be a GM Restoration Part. I spent over a day on the phone trying to locate a GM NOS LH quarter for a 67 camaro and finally found one. By that time I did not really care how much it cost. I would recommend looking for a NOS quarter. You will probably have to pay the difference in the price for the body shop to make the repro duction quarter fit.

I bought a quarter panal skin and rear tail panel to fix where a car rearended me. Upon mating the two together, it looked like crap where the two meet. The tail panal is like the original (almost anyway) but the skin is not formed right to mate to the tail panel correctly. Is their a product that I could get that is formed right that could just be welded onto the skin that is formed correctly without buying a complete quarter
