Question How to spot Correct 67' drive train???

Hey guys, I'm going to look at a 67' Camaro convert. this weekend which I'm told is all original. I'm told the car is an original 327 hp motor, muncie 4 speed, and 12 bolt rear. The motor is out of it so finding numbers shouldn't be a problem. The trans may be out of it as well, not sure. Anyway, if anyone can tell me what to look for on this car to tell if it does still have it's original drivetrain, I would really appreciate it. I don't want to pay #'s matching money for a car that's not
Thanks Again,
Mark

VIN numbers for both the engine and tranny should tell you. VIN for engine would be on the block pad on the front of the block. If the 327 engine is original then the tranny cant be original. Muncie transmissions only came in SS cars with either a 350 or 396. So either way, it cant be all numbers matching drivetrain. As far as the rearend. 67-69 Camaro 12 bolt rearends had a 3894860NF on the Axle Center section. For a 67 rear end it would have a two letter code of which the first letter would start with a P. PA, PB, PC etc.... So the rear end code might look something like this PA 0208 G. 0208 would represent 02 for February, 08 for 8th day. G for Detroit plant. Look to see that the date code on rear end lines up with the date code on the cowl.

I thought (at least early) 67's did not get partial vin's? Also, a lot of people think the M20 option in 67 was only a muncie, but it could have been a saginaw with the 327 (believe me, I am getting nailed right now by several people who rigidly believe that M20 is ONLY a muncie).

I may have been wrong about the 4-speed being a muncie. He may have just said "4-speed"....If it isn't a muncie, should it have a partial vin? If not, is date code the only way to tell?
Thanks,
Mark

In 1967, the 327 engines did not get the partial vin stamped on the engine or transmission. You should look for the cast dates and the build dates an all components. The 12 bolt codes for 1967 could also start with "Q" such as "QK" for 3:31 Posi. If the 327 is original and a 4 bbl carb., the stamp on the front of the engine would have a suffex of MK for a Nor car and ML for a Los car.

Yes, sorry on the VIN for the engine...my mistake. As far as the M20 option..yes i understand it doesnt neccesarily mean Muncie. Just stating that 327s did not come with Muncie trans. And yes 67 rear ends can also start with a Q as well. I was apparently a little off my game this morning.
