Default Help on 73 Z-28

Guys, with all of your camaro wisdom. Can a 1973 camaro with a K code vin number and z28 option on the cowl tag, can that be a correct car? The car looks like a RS/LT/Z28, what are your thoughts? I don't have the vin yet, the guy I am wanting to buy from will be emailing to me soon. I will post it when I can. What are your thoughts?

go to www.nastyz28.com for all your 2nd gen questions

K code in the VIN is JUST a 350 4bbl, NOT a Z28, that code HAS to be a "T"

a 73 Type LT Z will NOT have ANY Z28 emblems, ANYwhere

the only place would be on the cowl tag IF it was built in Norwood, none if bulit in LA

*I* LIKE 73 RS Type LT Z's
had one 20 years ago without the rear spoiler (4spd and air)

Yep, as far as I know, "T" is the only code for a Z in 73 (I have two, and they both have the "T").

T is the hypo 350 245hp Z28 motor . . . also refered to as the L82. My 73 is an RS LT Z28 4spd HDM20 with A/C.

Thanks for the help guys. Still havent received the VIN number. He gave me the cowl numbers and it does say Z28, but my understanding is that it isnt or wasnt attached to the car when he bought the car. The K in the VIN, would that match to the car being a RS then? Thanks again.

I don't think the K means RS, basically the 5th digit is for motor. Remember in 73, after some date, the trim tag was secured with good old fashioned screws rather than rivits.

I didn't know that they were on by screws. Thought they were like the 69 cars. Thanks for the info.

I *think* it was mid year. The 73 RS, early, has rivets, the reg 73, late, has screws.

The "K" code is 350 4 bbl, in '72 it was used to denote the "SS" 350 engine, so a K code '73 LT is very much like a '72 SS 350, but of course the LT option replaced the SS in '73, that's not to say it's an SS but the powerplants were similar in '72 and '73. Only "T" code cars were Z28's. And yes, sometime in '73 screws replaced rivits...
