Angry big hole truck bell housing

I keep discovering odd things while dismantling! I find out the bell housing in my 69 b/b - M20 4sp is a "big hole" truck bell. Is this going to be a problem - I think I read in other posts that the allignment could be off - any help is appreciated.

It will cause some serious problems. I understand that someone is making a spacer ring but I don't know who.

This IS a big problem, the trans is centered on the crank centreline by the front bearing retainer fitting into the bellhousing hole snugly.
The truck bellhousing has a bigger hole and the only thing holding the trans in posistion is the bolts, allowing it to be off centre. This will kill the 4th gear syncro and also be hard on the input bearing.
You could make a thin ring to adapt the trans retainer to the bellhousing hole or find the correct bellhousing.
621 bellhousings are now being reproduced.
Hope this helps.
Mike.

thanks guys - I guess the best is to find a used "proper" bell. This site has helped me a great deal! Glad I found out now instead of wrecking my tranny.

Do a search for this under my name b/c I have posted the info on the guy that makes it and sells it for a decently CHEAP price vs probably buying a different B/H.

Question Re: big hole truck bell housing

well guys, I'm confused. I think I prefer to go with the proper bellhousing for the b/b. Am I limited to the 621 bell if I run a 10.5" clutch, or are there different bell numbers I can look for to fit my application??

I had "thought" all BB's used the 11" clutch...but if you have a 10.5" setup noe and your block is drilled for that starter, you can keep it.

Do some searching on bellhousing part numbers here, it's all in the archives. When I had to change mine this winter, I found a post by vintage68 that listed some part #'s, and I found a compatible nova bellhousing on ebay for WAY less than Camaro bell's bring.

As for the starter issue,, can't you just change starter drive noses? Thats what I did when I went to large housing and flywheel . If you are not numbers person,, go to a GOOD mini starter. I used a Tilton on one of my cars.

Cool Re: big hole truck bell housing

well guys, I ordered the adapter from Advance Adapters today ($34.00) to put into my truck bell. Bought a new 11" clutch & pressure plate, and seeing as the starter cross references to a 1963 327cu.in - I'm buying a new stock starter tomorrow....what the hell, it's only money (Canadian money at that!). I hope that will complete my switch to the bigger clutch assembly?
