Exclamation Chevy High PERFORMANCE

Went to the web site that talks about max size for 1st gen camaro and when it cam to 17" rims for the front the following was said

17-Inch Wheels

Backspacing: 5.0

Wheel width: 8.5

Tire size: 245/40

would that mean that a 17x8 with 4.5 backspacing with 235/45/17 would fit with out rubbing or sticking out?

anyone running 17x8 with 4.5b/s in a 235/45/17 on their front tires? any issues?

thanks

On an 8" wide front wheel you want 4.75" - 5" of back space. 4.5" is not enough. a 235/45 tire will work fine. Do a search on this site - we talk about this what seems to be once a week. LOL Really there is a ton of info here on back spacing. Good luck.

Did a search and found these post by Senior Tech person Teetoe Jones

"They will fit. I have 17x8 all the way around, with 4-1/2" of backspacing on all 4.
tires are 235/45/ZR17 on the front, and 275/40/ZR17 on the rear. They don not rub even on hard bumps."

Well i like the fit. BUT- I do all my own stuff (even mounting and balancing tires) and putting them on an 8" rim SUCKS!!! I should have done a 9" or 9-1/2" rim, but oh well. The 235/45/ZR17 is the BEST combo to use on the front. My car is lowered almost 2" and i drive it HARD. Those tires never rub or scrape at all.

"I second Teetoe's comment...

I run 17x8 on all four with 255/45x17 rear and 245/45x17 front.

All wheel have 4-1/2" backspacing.

Now then, that being said...

I need to either get a narrower tire up front, or a 7" wheel up there.

I get a little rub at full lock.

Other than that, there's room, at leats on my '67 to run a 17x9 with 275/40 out back with no suspension/body mods..

So i'm not sure why they would not work..

perfect use of the search function
bang up job ole chap!!
but i have read many times that 4.75" is better
so if you can measure for yourself
and remember that you can ad a 1/4" spacer (not ideal) to the 4.75" bs if you needed 4.5" but you would be stuck with a 4.5" bs

another possibility to get those 235s on an 8" rim in the front is just dont turn the steering wheel so far
