My 69 needs a new right rear quarter panel and I plan to purchase a new repro full quarter which has the full door jam and the gutter for the trunk and rear window. Is this the best and most seamless way to go and how well do they fit?
Also, what is a good price to have the old one cut out and the new one installed? |

I have purchased one of the repos for the drivers side of my car and I am very happy with the way it fits...it's as good or better than GM, but I have heard that the passenger side Repo didn't fit as well...I also heard they were going to retool them.

I just got an estimate from a restorer the other day for using 80% quarter panels. He's going to cut them off about 1 inch from the top crest in towards the trunk and weld the new ones on there. His estimate was $800 per side for that part of the job. I guess that doesn't include the paint because I got a seperate bid for the whole paint job.

This is a pic of my car with the new 100% quarter and completely new door shell. Both fit fantastic and are high quality pieces. For as much bashing of reproduction parts as we do around here (and most of it is rightly deserved) we should also give props to the good parts out there.

Were Installing the full quarters on my 69 right now and what you heard is right. The drivers side fit up great and the passenger side had to be tweeked around where it meets the door.I would for sure go with the full quarters. We also replaced the rear inner fenders and the tail pan. They fit up good also.

I replaced both quarters last winter. I agree the drivers side fit much better but both were better than struggling with 80% quarters like I had planned.

Well I'll be darned, I thought it was just me having a problem installing the (RIGHT) full quarter on a 69! As the rest of you have said already, a full quarter is the only way to go, and the fit is good! A shop will usually charge around 1,200 to 1,500 a side with no paint. The 80% quarters are going to cause a lot of warping, which in turn calls for a LOT OF BONDO! Word to the wise. Good luck!

CrossRamZ11, who did you go through to purchase your quarter panels? Did you replace wheel wells and trunk also?? good fit? |

Actually, Yes, I did replace the inner and outer wheelhouses, trunk pan, filler and extensions, rear frame rails, floors front to back, Footwells, shock mounts and the entire rotted section under the rear seat (that had to be fabbed) I purchased the majority of my metal from Classic Industries. If you order $1000 or more, shipping is free, including truck freight. The only metal I did not purchase from them was the frame rails, those came from C.A.R.S. Inc. in here in Metro Detroit. Everything fit exceptionally well, no complaints. Now my repro headrests are awful, but that's another story...
80% Quarters do not include the door jam area or the trunk jam. It is WELL worth a little extra cash to get the 100% and avoid major headaches. just my $.02 You can see pics of the metal work at the link below... ------------------ 1969 "Touring" Pace Car, Full Hotchkis Suspension, Bilstein Shocks, AGR Steering, 352CI Dynoed 470hp/430Tq - Winston Cup Airbox, 18X9-18X8 Centerline Lazers, Baer Track Brakes. CrossRam, Thanx for the reply.
Did the trunk include the Trunk to Filler extension built into it like the original one does? The one from NPD that I just got in does not, althought the quality looks good. |
