As far as I know they came from Clippinger Chevy in West Covina Ca. Supposedly one burned up in a fire at the dealership. Maybe someone e3lse can chime in on this. Clippinger was a big sponsor of James Garner racing team and his Corvettes. Bob Wigate was a big hi performance salesman there in those days.

Seems there was one Burnish Brown 69 COPO Camaro that came from West Viginia. This car is owned by a collector in Nevada.Tom,I think the guys name is Bob Wingate and he still owns a Corvette from there.Yes your right about James Garner, his motors were done by TRACO.

Clippinger is where my 69 Z is from..I went by the old dealership last month to see if they had any records. The lady told me the old man died and the dealership was sold 7 years ago and the new owners cleaned house...I wish someone there would have kept the records.

I believe the one from West Virginia is NOT the real deal. I had a chance to buy this car in the 90s from a collector in Ohio. Nothing jived and he had no docs. There was a discussion about this car on the SYC a few years ago.....

Dan, there was a guy who posted a couple of years ago looking for his father's old RS COPO that was Burnished Brown. I think he still had the POP and knew the VIN of that car. There is also that BB car that Reggie had that keeps popping up for sale as being legit when I don't think it is(that might be the WV rebody car). Just this past year that car suddenly had a POP with it and matching #'s so beware.

ChevyThunder,Very cool that California Black plate! I have a set that came with my 68 Nova 396/375 4spd car that came from Stockton Calif. While doing research on the 2 69 ZL1 Camaros that sold at Hauser Chevrolet in Bethlehem PA I found the same thing.Found the current owner of the building where Hauser was and asked about all the old dealership paperwork, missed it by 2 years!!The owner paid a company to come in and shredd all the papers. You think one of these guys that worked for these companys were carnuts and kept this stuff....Jeff,The WV car is not a RS...Tom,Since you wanted to buy this would you have the vin info, cowel tag info, person that owned it?? Thanks! Dan

Dan, here is what i have:

ST69 12437 NOR155017
TR 711 61 F PNT
11A X44DOO

A fellow name Rick Dyer found the car in a junk yard in West Virginia, he thinks it is a COPO but has no docs. If I remember correctly it was a shell no motor, tranny or rear end.
The magazine that it is in is "Cars & Parts Muscle Cars of the 70s" Sept/Oct. 1991 also note vinyl roof on cowl tag?

Here's the discussion threads about this car and that it's questionable.

ChevyThunder,Cooool picture! You got me wondering, seems there all a awful lot of Norwood built Copo's but only 1 documented LOS 69 Copo Camaro.I think it would be a good idea if you contact Bob Wingate and see if he could shed light on how many Copo's they ordered and if they came from the LOS plant or Norwood plant. I don't know which B Brown copo from West Va you're referring to, but the one I owned, from Roger Dean(06A build) was documented by the original owner on Apr 25, 1991. He's still around & will tell you that his car was a COPO.
Also, the original title application for the State of West Va shows the purchase price as $3965.35
Figuring a base price of $3575.30 (from Camaro Enthusiast Mar "93) $32.65 for tinted glass, $35.85 Rallye wheels, $61.10 radio, $34.80 Rosewood wheel,$47.40 style trim & $94.80 for instruments/guages...that total is $3881.90 which leaves a diff of $83.45 for delivery?
Ed C also doc'd the car June 1996 after a personal inspection.
Sorry there wasn't a buildsheet, but I thought it was doc'd well enough or I wouldn't have spent the $$ to have it restored.
